May, 2012 My husband and I just returned from this year’s trip to Italy. On this trip, we visited Tuscany and Borgo Santo Pietro, and I have nothing but wonderful things to say.
From the moment we arrived, the staff was friendly, attentive, proactive in their effort to make sure we had a magical stay. What is so lovely is that this is a high end hotel – and the staff makes everyone feel at home, and relaxed. It is not stuffy at all – and this is what makes it worth the expense. My husband and I have stayed at hotels that are high end and snooty – and those are not hotels we will return to. Borgo Santo Pietro is absolutely a place we will frequent when we go to Tuscany, and we will definitely recommend it to our friends and family. (Update: my parents went to Borgo this last Fall, 2013 and also absolutely loved it)
Details: everyday there are fresh floral arrangements put into our room which add a wonderful touch to the experience. There are bath salts from Santa Maria Novella placed everyday to use with a amazing claw-footed bathtub (that I used daily and was just fabulous). Every detail in the rooms, from the bedding to the fireplace (which we had lit by the staff every night), to the bathmats, to the sprig of lavendar on the pillows at night – beautiful.
The food was wonderful. Every morning the kitchen is adorned with fresh fruit and just-baked breads and organic yogurt and more farm-fresh delights – a sight to be seen, and just lovely when it is warm enough to bring the food outdoors. In the evening, the menus (dinner menu and bar menu are both available) are well appointed, and again, the food is all wonderfully fresh and organic and hand-made in most cases. The balsamic from Modena is rich, the honey is from bees on the property, and many of the vegetables are also picked right on the property. My mouth is watering right now just thinking of that lobster with hand-made fettucine.
The spa: Tracy is a master and it is a gorgeous setting.
The pool and the bar area: it was a little chilly the week we were there, but absolutely beautiful, and the online pictures just don’t do it the justice it all merits. They are making more and more improvements to the bar area with a new lounge called ‘The Treehouse’. It’s like an upscale treehouse with fireplace and comfortable furniture.
The main fireplace room: warm and so cozy. When we arrived, we sat by the fireplace while waiting for our room and were immediately delivered a beautiful platter of fresh antipasti and wine.
The staff: I want to name them all… I’ll just say this: they are warm and wonderful. Everybody went out of their way to help with every request, and they were proactive at making our stay memorable. We adore them. All of them!
My only criticisms: the Wifi was a bit challenged, and that’s not typical more me as (at the time I wrote this, I worked for a large networking company)! I am sure they will get that under control. Perhaps in the future, a fitness and yoga area could be considered – although there is a lot to do outdoors to stay fit in Tuscany overall.
Borgo is absolutely our place in Tuscany, and we highly recommend it. This is one of our top 2 higher end hotels in Italy now.
