More than once in my life time I have described Positano, on the amazing Amalfi Coast of Italy, as ‘The Beautiful Place’, and with very good reason. I fell in love with the town years ago and it’s been like a magnet to me ever since. Stick me in Positano and I’m good. The hotels are great, and my favorite is Le Sirenuse, where the views from the hotel balcony are perfection, and the service cannot be surpassed anywhere I have been in the world. There are, as you would expect in any Italian resort town, many great eating places, but to me, Le Tre Sorelle is an absolute must. You could spend all of your time in Positano, simply wandering around, visiting the numerous shops and walking the winding cliffside, or you could use Positano as a base to explore other gorgeous places on the Amalfi Coast, such as Ravelllo, just 22km and a wonderful 40 minute drive south along the windy coast road. If you’re an active person and love gorgeous views, don’t miss The Path of the Gods. The climb begins about 1/2 mile south of Positano and is a must do for anyone who wants a great, outdoor workout after all of the fabulous food!
When people ask me about where to stay in the Amalfi Coast – Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi, Ravello – my answer is always, lay your head in Positano. You absolutely cannot go wrong. And by the way, even if Le Sirenuse is not in the budget, even the Best Western at the top of Positano has bougainvillea growing up and down its walls, and there are many fabulous options at rates in between!
